Conference: Hyperbaric Therapy: A New Path? Vendredi 16 Mars 2007
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is a therapeutic treatment that dates back to the 1920s. The technology involves a person inhaling oxygen while sitting in a chamber where the atmospheric pressure is increased to greater than that found at sea level, hence the term “hyperbaric”. A person sits or lies in a monoplace or multiplace steel chamber and breathes 100% oxygen (the air we normally breathe contains only 21% oxygen).
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy has been experimented on close to 130 medical conditions and there is scientific proof that HBOT has an effect on many pathologies. Several neurodevelopmental conditions are the subject of clinical trials or pilot projects in the world right now.
Dr Kenneth P. Stoller is the president of the International Hyperbaric Medical Association and has over 20 years of experience in pediatrics. Dr Stoller’s main objective is to make the whole world aware of the benefits of this new therapy and make it available to the greatest number of people.
Dr. Pierre Marois is a physiatrist specialised in paediatric rehabilitation. He works at Sainte-Justine Hospital as well as many rehabilitation centres in Quebec. Actively involved in teaching and research, he has started numerous cerebral palsy treatment clinical trials. Among other trials, he started the three research studies done on hyperbaric oxygen therapy for this clientele in Quebec and regularly gives conferences on the subject.
Dr. Julie Buckley is a pediatrician who includes mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy in her practice. Neurotypical primary care meets the DAN! approach to healing children on the autism spectrum in her Florida office. She has developed a patent pending antioxidant formula for peri-vaccination and peri-oxidative stress use, serves on the Biomedical Advisory Board for the National Autism Association and is President and co-founder of HEAL! (Healing Every Autistic Life!), a non-profit foundation dedicated to Education, Awareness, Treatment, Research and Prevention of ASD.
